Jean Chisholm (BA, BDes, MDes) is a designer, researcher, and educator. Her research explores place-based and community collaborations that work towards relational, ecological and equitable ways of living. She approaches this work through collegial labour practices and collaborations with artists, designers and community organizers who hold local and Indigenous knowledge of their communities. Most recently, Jean convened the Place-Based Field School and social practice course Practicing Neighbourly Responsibility with Laura Kozak. She has multiple years of experience as a graphic designer and art director, designing and overseeing production for printed, spatial, and digital touch points. Jean currently works at Emily Carr University of Art + Design as an instructor, Faculty Association coordinator, and research associate with the Health Design Lab and Living Labs. Jean grew up Prince George, BC, on Lheidli T’enneh territory, and currently lives in Vancouver, located within the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̍əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səl̓ílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. During the summers Jean can often be found biking around the Salish Sea and Pacific coast.
